backup

Backup FirefoxMozilla’s Firefox Internet browser is now used by 30% of the world.

How do you backup Firefox’s bookmarks, passwords, and extensions so you can restore should your computer fail, or to migrate to a new computer?

Firefox stores all your personal settings in a profile folder and you’ll need to find this folder to backup Firefox.

The default location of the Firefox profile folder is %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\.

Windows 7 / Vista C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\
Windows XP / 2000 C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\

(If you’re not sure how to find that folder there are detailed instructions at Mozilla)

Now that you have the location of that folder you can backup Firefox by copying this folder to another destination. Restoring is just as easy, simply copy this folder back after installing the new version of Firefox.

To automatically backup this folder on a daily basis, add it to your CloudPockets online backup.

Backup Firefox using CloudPockets

(not using CloudPockets to backup to the Cloud? Try it here)

  • Shut down Firefox
  • Open the  CloudPockets client and select the folder icon at the bottom left.
  • Click the Advanced button and work your way through the folders until you show the Firefox profile folder on the right hand pane.
  • Click the checkbox to add it to your online backup
  • Click OK until you are back at the main window
  • At this point you can either run a backup immediately, or close the CloudPockets client and answer [Yes] to save settings to Backup Server.

It’s unlikely you could remember all your bookmarks and passwords. Make sure you backup Firefox so that you can restore this information should you need it.
