backup

The COVID-19 Coronavirus is an unexpected disaster that arrived mysteriously and escalated quickly. Every day brings changes and many organizations and businesses are struggling to keep up.

Many businesses have chosen to help flatten the curve and send staff home, initiating a work-from-home policy.

How does this work-from-home policy affect your backup strategy?

Where Is Your Data?

Your backup strategy is always going to be based on your data location. Has that location changed? If your remote staff are accessing your data back at the office, or your data is cloud based then you may not need to make any changes to your backup strategy.

If, however, staff is going to create and work with new data right on their remote computers then you need to re-assess your backup strategy. You will need a backup plan that captures data on remote computers.

Add Remote Backup Clients

Our Acronis based platform let’s you run backups on each laptop or desktop and back that data up, all under one backup plan.

You can manage all these backups from the central management portal, so you always have a good view of what is being backed up, and when. You can get reports of backup activity and successes or failures.

Setting this up for your business is as simple as logging into the management portal on each computer and downloading the backup client (or download the installer to a USB drive and install from there). That’s all you need to do. The disruption to your staff is minimal.

The rest of your configuration can be done from the portal, behind the scenes, without impacting your staff at all. You can even test a restore to confirm everything is working as expected.

Follow Up

Once COVID-19 is over and things get back to normal and staff are back in the office they can move whatever data they have back to your centralized repository.

Once that data has been moved back you can now change your backup strategy to a centralized model again.

With Acronis and CloudPockets these changes are pretty easy and has minimal impact to staff. You always have control and assurances that your data is being protected.
